Flu Activity Continues—Prevention is Critical!
We still have more flu activity than in other years, and a new “wave” of flu is possible this season. Wash your hands, cover your coughs & sneezes, stay home when you’re sick and get vaccinated.

Pandemic Flu

An epidemic caused by a new virus, for which people have no immunity, and spreads easily from person to person affecting a large number of people is called a “pandemic.” Pandemics spread rapidly around the world. The current 2009 H1N1 Influenza virus is considered a Pandemic by the World Health Organization.   Vaccines for Pandemic Flus must be created quickly to be effective, because a vaccine cannot be developed until a specific human pandemic flu virus exists.

NOTE: This page contains background information about influenza pandemics in general. This page does NOT contain information about the Pandemic 2009 H1N1 Influenza ("swine flu") that is spreading from person to person around the world.  For information about 2009 H1N1 influenza, visit the Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 Influenza  information page here at www.MarinFlu.org.
